As our main fall service activity, SCALA will be participating in Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a yearly project undertaken by the organization Samaritan’s Purse. They collect toys, books, hygiene products, and other small gifts to put into shoeboxes and ship to children in third-world countries. They have drop-off locations across the country, so even if you are not in Emporia, you can pack a shoebox and drop it off at a location near you. It would be a fun cohort activity to bring gifts and pack/decorate shoeboxes if anyone is interested in organizing it. Just fill me in on the details if you do this!
If you are in Emporia, there are four drop-off locations on the Emporia State University campus: in the SLIM Office, in the WAW Library, in the Center for Student Involvement (in the Union), and in the Student Wellness Center. The whole campus will be asked to donate until November 17th and then we will hold a packing party sometime later that week in Emporia.
Please consider donating to this great cause! Take $5 with you next time you go shopping and buy a few fun items or pack a whole box yourself. A little goes a long way. We also need cash donations in order to pay for the shipping on the boxes. Each box costs $7 to ship.
