As professionals in information we are constantly juggling not only the quality and accuracy of information but also the effects of the various personal moral, political, spiritual, and religious compasses that inevitably effect the information we generate. I would pose a series of questions to you this week. First, how do you handle patrons when they seek information with which you disagree or feel is harmful? Second, do you feel that your own moral compass helps or inhibits your ability to help patrons? Finally, how can being more aware of your own biases help you to be a more effective communicator and a better information professional?
