Just wanted to share the information about SCALA’s most recent community library project. If anyone else is interested in becoming involved with this project contact Lily Morgan or Shanna Smith. We are looking for more volunteers! The project description is listed below:
Emporia SOS Resource Library Project
Who: Lily Morgan and Shanna Smith are the Emporia SCALA members involved with the project.
What: The Emporia SOS is a non-profit agency through United Way. SOS stands for “Services Offering Safety,” and it is their mission to end sexual and domestic violence, abuse and neglect through service, education, and advocacy. The SOS organization has a small collection of 200-300 books and materials that are not cataloged. SCALA is creating a database to catalog the resource collection, and then will arrange the materials using the Library of Congress call numbers.
When: The resource library project was initiated at the end of Fall 2008 semester. SCALA is still in the beginning stages of the project. It is anticipated that SCALA will be involved in the future maintenance SOS Resource Library as well.
Where: The resource library collection is located in Emporia, Kansas at an administrative office.
Why: Currently, social workers and clients are unable to utilize their resources and collection efficiently. Through the creation of this database, SOS will be able to take advantage of their present resources to give aid to the Emporia community.
